Topical Topics
Topical Topics has the aim of increasing members’ understanding of what is going on in the World, and we’ve all learnt a lot of often surprising information on a huge range of Topics.
Members take turns to select and informally present their chosen subject for subsequent discussion by the group – 2 subjects per meeting – and it’s safe to say that everyone, including the presenters, learns something amazing each time.
Any Topical Topic is acceptable (except UK Party Politics!).
As an idea of the range, we’ve heard about The Havana Syndrome, Sending sand to Arabia, Free speech, Facial recognition, SLAPPS, Puffer fish and zombies, Sexual harassment, Fake news, Earn with YouTube, Gaslighting, Privatisation of the NHS, Religious privilege, Wagnergate, Undersea mining, Diego Garcia, First humans and sherbet, Ethiopian emperor’s hair, Kaliningrad, Chinese social credit, Hydrogen strategy, Benin bronzes, and much, much more – over 300 Topics since we started in 2017.
With a maximum of 10 members, Topical Topics meets in members’ homes at 2 - 4pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month.
Vacancies occasionally arise, so please let us know if you are interested in joining us.
Joint convenors: Danny Nicolle and Jim McCulloch.
