New Members Enquiries

If you are reviewing this as a prospective member of Hastings and Rother U3A, welcome, please browse the information below.

The U3A is a nationwide learning cooperative of older people which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities. There are many U3As across the UK and all local activities and study/interest groups are created by and run by the members themselves. There are over 900 branches with more than 340,000 members, nationally.

Membership of a U3A is open to all in their third age, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased. All you need is interest and enthusiasm!

The original sense of the word University is ‘a collective of people who share the same interests and objectives’ – in this case, lifelong non-academic learning. This University has members, not students. No qualifications are required and none are given.

We have over 60 groups in the Hastings and Rother U3A. You can take a look at the current listing using the groups link and also keep fit activities.

We meet monthly for an informal coffee on the Second Monday of each month at the Royal Victoria Hotel in St. Leonards or the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill and on the Fourth Monday for our main meeting. You can check the what/when/where on our events page.

You are welcome to come and meet with us on two occasions before joining, to see if we will suit you. Please make yourself known on arrival and we will endeavour to make you feel welcome.

If you want to join the Hastings and Rother U3A, please print an application form and send it by post with a cheque, or bring it along to a meeting. Full instructions are on the form. Please also see our introductory letter.
