Exploring Science
Do you have an interest in Science? Like most members of this group, you may not have a detailed scientific background, but would like to explore what science can offer to explain how the world works, or how it may change our future.
With inspiration coming from personal interests, articles found in the news, and scientific reports, members take turns to choose a subject to present informally to the group at a level all (including the presenter) will understand, followed by discussion.
We are happy to present subjects in the safe knowledge that the details we’ve discovered are almost certainly unknown to other members, so we all learn something amazing each time.
“Exploring Science” covers all and any areas of science. Two subjects are usually presented each meeting, and recent examples include:
Cell based meat, Why jet streams exist, Rare earth metals, Supercritical water, Nuclear fusion, Human genome project, James Webb telescope, Geothermal energy, Animals & viruses, Red blood cells, Circadian rhythms, Parasitic plants in Africa, Children's mental health, etc, etc.
“Exploring Science” meets at 2 – 4 pm on the 2nd Monday each month. With a maximum of 10 members, meetings are held in members’ homes.
Vacancies occasionally arise, so please send a message if you are interested in joining us.
Convenor: Danny Nicolle.
