The Garden Appreciation group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at a garden usually within about 45 minutes drive of Bexhill/Hastings. The first meeting of the year is a planning meeting in February to share ideas on where to visit each month and agree the schedule for the rest of the year. Each month's visit is co-ordinated by a different member.
Car sharing is encouraged but not compulsory. Once a year, if a member volunteers to organise it, there is a coach trip further afield and spare places on the coach are available for the wider U3A Hastings and Rother membership.
For the more local visits by car, we usually meet in the cafe at the garden between 10.30 and 11.00 am. We arrange a time to meet for lunch before we disperse to explore the gardens. After lunch some people may go home whilst others stay on to explore a bit more - possibly visiting the 'house' as well if that is part of the venue's offer. It is good to bear this in mind when arranging lifts.
Gardens visited in the last few years include: Standen, Chartwell, Hever Castle, Borde Hill, Batemans, Marle Place, Exbury, Nymans, Great Dixter, Wisley, Kew and Sheffield Park. Several of these are run by the National Trust, English Heritage or the Royal Horticultural Society and some are private. New ideas always welcome.
In December we usually meet up at a pub for Christmas lunch.
The group is full for 2017.
