Garden Appreciation
The Garden Appreciation group meets on the third Tuesday of the month from March to November at a garden usually within a 45-90 minute drive of Bexhill/Hastings. While we encourage car sharing, providing your own transport is preferable and members must make their own arrangements for lifts. Depending on the size of the garden, the visits may require quite a bit of walking.
For the local visits by car, we usually meet in the cafe at the garden between 10.30 and 11.00 am. We arrange a time to meet for lunch before we disperse to explore the gardens.
After lunch some people may go home whilst others stay on to explore a bit more - possibly visiting the 'house' as well if that is part of the venue's offer. It is good to bear this in mind when arranging lifts.
Gardens visited in the last few years include: Riverhill, Leonardslee, Standen, Chartwell, Hever Castle, Borde Hill,
Batemans, Wakehurst, Nymans, Great Dixter, Wisley, Kew and Sheffield Park. Several of these are run by the National Trust, English Heritage or the Royal Horticultural Society and some are private. We urge members to use the annual 2for1 cards from “Gardeners World” magazine as well. New ideas always welcome.
In December we sometimes arrange a visit to Christmas displays or meet up at a pub for lunch.
