Due to the coronavirus situation we have recently joined a Bridge Club online which allows us to play against each other as if we were playing at our weekly meetings. The bridge club is called BridgeClubLive and we are an accredited club on the site www.bridgeclublive.com. This is a really fantastic way to play online Bridge and the site has lots of really interesting features. Please join!
What we do: The group has grown considerably in recent years and has now reached full capacity at its current venue. A Waiting List will be started as from now. The group has joint leadership with myself and David Fisher, who will be providing introductory sessions for new members when the opportunity arises.
If you are already familiar with the basics of playing Bridge, even as a Beginner, you will be welcome to come along and give us a try. We play 'Duplicate Bridge' rather than 'Rubber Bridge'. (For those who haven't played Duplicate: the basic rules are broadly the same as Rubber except there is no 'scoring below the line' and where each table passes on the just-played hand to the next table - so tables generally play the same hands as each other and can compare their bidding and playing results to the others).
Most players use the basic Standard Acol bidding system with various additions. We play to win and to learn but enjoyment is our aim and we don't take the game too seriously.
You do not need a partner to come along. Many who come most weeks will just pair up with whoever is there on the day. We have over 70 'regulars' on our membership list although we typically have between 14 and 16 tables at a meeting.
In the future we hope to hold internal group competitions. There is a 'Wine and Nibbles' session after the regular morning slot twice a year as well as a Summer Luncheon in July/August.
