Membership

INTRODUCTION

The membership academic and financial years run from 1st September to 31st August. Anyone new joining from 1st June onwards is a member up until 31st August of the following year. If in doubt, please phone the Membership Secretary on 07715 429249.

GROUP ACTIVITIES

If you wish to see what is on offer, go to the Groups tab.

Please note that Group membership is only available to Harrogate u3a members.

MONTHLY OPEN MEETINGS

All members are invited to attend the monthly Open Meetings which are now held at the Cairn Hotel, Ripon Road, Harrogate, HG1 2JD.

They provide an opportunity to hear a variety of talks by visiting speakers.

Potential members are welcome to come along to these meetings. If you would like to see details of these, go to the What is On Events tab.

Doors will open from 10.40 followed by the talk at 11.00am.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This usually takes place in late September, but date, venue and details will be added to the What is On Events tab when finalised.

RENEWING MEMBERS
If you have previously been a member and would like to re-join, please click for online Renewal form here that will link to an online webform for completing and submitting. NB. Separate applications are required for each member wishing to renew. Joint applications are no longer accepted.

Bank transfer is preferred but payment by cheque is accepted.

BANK TRANSFERS: If using bank transfer (bacs) you may get a message from your bank saying that they cannot confirm the end payee. This is because we use CAF Bank which has not signed up to the 'payee naming scheme' yet.

Members without continuous membership may still be classed as renewing if only lapsed for one year.
Please note that renewal applications made before 1st August would be for the current membership year. Current members may renew between 1st August and 30th November for the year starting 1st September.

Date of joining does not govern the length of membership or next renewal date as membership is always for an academic year.

GIFT AID

As you are probably aware, Harrogate u3a is a registered charity and as such is able to claim Gift Aid on eligible donations, ie membership subscriptions, where consent has been given by members.

If you pay tax on your income and/or capital gains and are happy for Harrogate u3a to claim a Gift Aid rebate in respect of your membership subscription mark the appropriate box on the online or hardcopy forms.

Please note, if two members are eligible and one payment is made from a joint bank account, both members need to mark the Gift Aid box.

Where a payment for both members comes out of an account held in a single name, then the Gift Aid box should only be completed on that account holders application. This is because Harrogate u3a cannot claim Gift Aid on a subscription payment paid on behalf of someone else. It is considered a gift to the person whose membership you pay, not to the charity.
