Play Reading

Recently we have read three plays: ‘The Master Builder’, the Henrik Ibsen drama in which pride comes (via arrogance) before a fall; ‘The Reluctant Debutante”, a comedy about the pretensions of the upper class by William Douglas Home; and ‘Far From The Madding Crowd”, a play by Matthew White based on the book of the same name by Thomas Hardy, which tells of love, honour and betrayal, against the backdrop of a farming community in Victorian England. Encouragingly, the Play Reading group has recently attracted a number of new members and we can now often muster as many as ten at our monthly Monday afternoon meetings, normally held at the house of one of our members.
