Safer Places

Safer Places provides places of refuge in Harlow for victims of domestic abuse. Safer Places receives no funding, but we are very ambitious to provide real support for the children, young people and women in our refuges and meaningful volunteering opportunities in the community.

We are recruiting volunteers who can offer us an hour or two of their time to help a child with homework, reading, perhaps run a relaxation session, or show someone how to garden. You can spend some time passing on skills to a young woman who hasn't been taught to cook and much more.

We are very keen to have more mature people come into our refuges because life in refuge is not the same as in a family home. Children and their mums miss grandparents and any interaction with a mature person helps towards achieving family stability after a time of crisis.

I invite U3A members to contact me to find out more about the volunteer opportunities and roles with Safer Places in Harlow – I can promise you will find it interesting and rewarding.
