The group was established in January 2019 and meets on the 4th Thursday afternoon of each month at Harborne Baptist Church. It is not a ‘conventional’ history group in that we have deliberately chosen not to use a specific book or chronological order to follow. Instead, we have ‘bite size’ presentations of historical, political or cultural events which are of interest to group members. This approach has lead us to explore diverse & fascinating topics including US Healthcare System, US Political System, Klondyke gold rush, Prohibition, Chicago, Shakers, food & drink of New Orleans, early FBI, Jazz and Slavery amongst many others! Forthcoming topics for discussion in the next few months are many & varied, including the Boston Tea Party, Thanksgiving, Alcatraz & the development of the Constitution. Other ideas abound! The group is very inclusive, welcoming of everyone and no previous expertise or knowledge of the subject is required - we all find out as we go along! We also have a tea/coffee break during the meeting, which creates the opportunity for group members to chat!
We hope to organise a group visit to the American Museum in Bath in early 2020.
The group has at least 5 vacancies at the moment.
