Chair Alex Cairns-Lawrence
Alex was a member of Stafford u3a for about 15 years before moving and becoming a member of Harborne & Edgbaston and Moseley and Kings Heath nearly three years ago.
He has belonged to Eating Out, Discussion, Youth Hostelling, Bridge and Mah Jong and Quiz groups. He is interested in History, Architecture, rugby and anything
that attracts his curiosity, and likes to spend as much time with his four great grandchildren as possible.

Groups Secretary Veronica Richards
Veronica is beginning her 3rd year in the role of Groups Secretary. She has been a member of H&E u3a for about 10 years and participates in the Science Group and the Bridge Group.
Her outside activities include golf, playing the ukulele, Pilates, travel and astronomy.

Membership Secretary Alison Oswald
Alison has been a member since Autumn 2008 and learned to play bridge with fellow member, Margaret Miller, the following Spring.
She is an active member of the Science Group and has also participated in the Art Appreciation Group, which organised visits.

Secretary Terrie Robinson and Pat Smart (shared role)
Pat is now retired having spent a lifetime in primary education. She joined in Summer 2023 and is enjoying the move to self-directed learning through the u3a.
She was particularly attracted by the Garden Group and the opportunity to visit gardens and learn together. As a new member she has been “warmly welcomed” and has enjoyed meeting many
of the members. Outside of u3a Pat has four grandchildren, who keep her very busy and if she has any time left enjoys gardening, sewing, travelling and singing in a classical choir

Terrie is another of our new members having joined in Spring 2023. She is a member of the Church Architecture and Gardening Groups.
She is particularly interested in art and architecture and, having been a bookseller for 30 years, is passionate about books and reading.
She is also a member of the Arts Society and the NT and enjoys visiting places of historic interest.

Social Secretary Sue Hendry and Jane Street (shared role)
Jane joined the u3a about 10 years ago after taking full retirement.
She is a member of a number of Groups; Local History, Church Architecture, Playreading and USA History, Politics and Culture.
Outside u3a her interests include keeping active through walking, yoga and the gym and reading, especially detective stories.

Sue became a member in 2010 shortly after retiring. She initially joined the beginners Bridge Group and was encouraged to start the Garden Group,
which she still co-ordinates. Over the years she has been a member of table tennis, history of philosophy, local history, dining out and the science groups.
Sue was membership co-ordinator for three years before taking on her current role as joint social secretary.
Sue’s other interests include gardening, bridge, walking, reading and visiting places of interest.

Speakers Secretary Sue Worwood
Sue has lived in Birmingham since 1987 and became a member of H & E u3a in 2012.
Her u3a involvement revolves around Bridge, Coffee Mornings, Luncheon Club, General Meetings and she also runs the Monday Games Group.
You will see Sue on the yearly outings, at the March Luncheon and Annual Quiz, which are run by the Social Secretaries. Her outside interests are travelling,
reading and crafting.

Treasurer Ian Trotter
Ian has been a member for about 5 years. He joined the committee and became Treasurer in 2021. He is also a member of Halesowen u3a.
The Interest Groups he attends are Church Architecture, Games and Local History Groups.
In his spare time he likes walking his two dogs, diy, historic cars, and keenly follows Liverpool FC

Vice Chair Tina Howard
Tina joined u3a in Spring 2023.
She is a member of the walking group and joins most of the weekly walks. She also belongs to the Art Appreciation group. She has plans to join the Garden Group on their visits during 2024 and you will also see her at the group events offered to all members. Outside of u3a Tina has been part of an art workshop for over 20 years enjoying sculpture and ceramics. She also does voluntary work mostly working in grief support.

Web Administrator Glenis Poletti
Glenis became a member at the end of 2021. She lives in Stourbridge but chose Harborne and Edgbaston as, being a keen gardener,
she was impressed by the programme of events and visits offered by the Garden Group. She is a keen tennis player and also enjoys walking and Pilates. Watching sport of all kinds is something, which she likes to do in her spare time and she has been a life time supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers, although she mainly views the games from her armchair these days.

Supporting Roles

Tea Rota Organiser Sue Lawlor
Sue joined u3a after her retirement in January 2014. Currently she is not involved with any group, but in the past has been a member of former groups Family History and Wildflower Appreciation
She also very much enjoyed two years with the Creative Writing Group and had a selection of her stories printed into a little book for family and friends. She has helped out with the typing and printing of three more books for the group. When not spending time with her children and six grandchildren she enjoys reading and walking and, along with a neighbour, runs a little social club in the retirement flats where she lives.

Room Bookings Coordinator Angela Harvatt
Angela is also a relatively new member of Harborne & Edgbaston u3a having joined only two years ago. Initially she became a member of the Bridge Group and more recently
has joined the Games Group. Outside of her u3a involvement she also enjoys walking, yoga, reading and learning Spanish.
