The group meets at 10am on the 3rd Monday of each month in Room 7 at the Quinborne Community Centre, Ridgacre Rd. We aim to alternate guided visits with talks and, in keeping with the ethos of U3A, these are almost always researched and delivered by members.
Talks are open to all U3A members but numbers for visits can be limited and need to be booked and sometimes paid for in advance at the previous group meeting or general meeting to avoid disappointment. Visits are sometimes on a different day of the month to fit in with external opening times.
Last year our programme included:
January - Members talk “1893, a year in Harborne” based on his grandfather’s diary.
February - Visit to the Lapworth Museum of Geology, Birmingham University.
March - Members talks “Continuing the Chad Brook story” “Thomas Attwood, his history and influence”
April - Guided walk around Weoley Castle ruins
June - Guided visit to the Crescent Theatre
Talk - “Growing up in Ladywood” at Extracare Retirement Village, Longbridge followed by tea
July - Members talk, “The Suffragettes”
August - Visit to Lightwoods House, Bearwood
Sept 17th - Members talk “The Dunlop factory”
Oct 15th - Talk by Steve Beauchamp “Moseley Road Baths”
Nov 19th - Visit to the Birmingham and Midland Institute
Dec - Visit to Haden Hill House, Halesowen, a chance to see a Victorian Christmas.
