Art and Architecture Appreciation
Coordinator: Chris Green.
The group got started just over a year ago. We don’t operate in quite the same way as the other Art Appreciation groups . Rather than meeting at each other’s houses for presentations, we like to go out and look at Art . Whenever possible, we organise a guided tour, but on other occasions we have simply looked around Exhibitions on our own and then discussed them as a group.
Over the past year we have made extensive use of our travel passes and have taken it in turns to organise visits to exhibitions in various interesting places within the West Midlands area. We actually started off indoors in the winter, with a talk about Charles Rennie Mackintosh. This was followed by ( amongst other things) visits to see a national photographic exhibition in Stafford, an amazing permanent display of German Expressionist paintings in Leicester, a celebration of the Magna Carta in Worcester and a fascinating tour of architectural features of Shrewsbury. Coffee. and cake have also featured quite prominently on our agenda ! We still have visits to Liverpool and Cheltenham to look forward to and have started to make plans for next year.
We meet on the last Wednesday in the month and non-members are welcome to come along when there are no restrictions on numbers. The current Programme can be found in the right hand column, so please get in touch if there is anything you fancy.
