The Canasta Group is held in a member’s house in Bitterne, where we can accommodate up to 12 members. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 10am for a couple of hours or so. We cater for all abilities and are willing to teach absolute beginners. There is no charge but members like to contribute for their tea/coffee and biscuits. (This will be donated to our charity).
This is a simple card game usually played in a four i.e. 2 pairs of 2. Each player is dealt 13 cards. The aim of the game is to lay down Canastas containing 7 cards matching in value, e.g. 7 x 5s or 7 x Kings and eventually, by picking up and discarding, get rid of all the cards in your hand. Wild cards (2s and Jokers) can be included in a Canasta. The round then ends and all the cards laid are added together - cards still in your hand count against you and are deducted. The aim is to score more points than your opponents.
