Special group events
In April 2018 seventeen members of the group went to MALHAMDALE, Yorkshire for a 3 night visit. We stayed at an HF Guesthouse and the accommodation, food and support for our walks were all excellent. On our first day we walked to Gaping Gill from Clapham (via Ingleborough Caves). It was a delightful walk through wooded areas, by a stream and across some more challenging areas for walkers more used to the flatter lands of Essex! Unfortunately the weather closed in on us at lunchtime so we arrived back rather wet - but this gave us a chance to test the drying rooms at the Guesthouse.
The next day we collected our dry clothing (yes, the drying rooms passed the test with flying colours) and this time headed out in glorious sunshine to explore the famous sights of Malham - Janet's Foss, Goredal Scar and Malham Cove. It was a superb day with wonderful views. Some of the group decided to stretch their legs a bit further and walk on to Malham Tarn.
In the evenings HF provided some light entertainment in the form of quizzes and also a bar, so a good time was had by all!
I think we all agreed that we had a thoroughly good time and that we would like to do something similar again, so I'll keep a look out for more bargains from HF!
Our second HF stay was in April 2019 at ABINGWORTH in The South Downs for 3 nights. This time we were on a guided walking holiday, which meant that we had a choice of 3 different walks to choose from. We had two excellent days walking, the first in the area of Goodwood and the second walking from Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. The latter was in beautiful sunshine and so made a very memorable and exhilarating walk. Once again the food was very good and plentiful. We took part in some light entertainment in the evenings and once again one of our teams won the HF national quiz, winning a bottle of Champagne.
We finished 2019 with another visit - this time to Bourton-on-the-Water for 4 nights in early December. The house was in the town centre, which looked very festive with its Christmas lights. Once again food was excellent, accommodation very good, company very convivial - and the walking? The walking was very muddy! However once we managed to lift our eyes away from our feet we discovered beautiful views and delightful villages. We had two glorious days of frosty starts and sunny weather so felt vey lucky.
