Rectory Lane is often referred to as 'Duck Lane' by locals. The crinkle crankle wall was built without buttresses as the curve provides lateral stability as well as shelter for climbimg plants. The half circles at the base of the wall would have originally had wooden shutters which could be removed to allow flood water to flow into Rectory Moat. The bridge crosses the town river where the local duck population are often to be found.
