Our Annual General Meeting, 2 pm Thursday 3rd September

We were very pleased to welcome 59 members to the virtual Annual General Meeting on Thursday 3rd September – a fantastic effort and a measure of how far we have all come in the world of information technology! It was more than twice the attendance for the August meeting and hopefully more and more members will attend our monthly meetings.

There were two new members joining the committee, Patricia Smith, as Social Treasurer and Harcourt Concannon, as Vice Chairman. They introduce themselves later in this newsletter. Please think about what you can offer to support the organisation of Hale U3A, as without such volunteers we cannot function.

In addition to the changes to the committee, the approval of reduced subscriptions and the new opportunity to pay by Bank Transfer, we heard short presentations from 3 members explaining how they are coping with the restrictions forced by Coronavirus.

In whatever way you choose to try to keep your group alive we all applaud your efforts.

We have set the date for the AGM next year in the fervent hope it won’t be necessary to use Zoom.

Thank you to all members who voted ahead of the closing date and posed any questions, as they formed part of the AGM process and thank you to all those who worked so hard to make the meeting run so smoothly.

Format of Monthly Meetings pre-Covid

Monthly Meetings are usually held on the first Thursday of the month 2:00pm-4:00pm. They take place at the Bowdon Rooms, (home of the Cinnamon Club) in The Firs, Bowdon, Altrincham, Cheshire WA14 2TQ. Doors open at 1:30pm, giving you an opportunity to browse information and chat to members. After that there will be light refreshments and an opportunity to chat to other members and to talk to the Group Leaders and Committee members about joining existing groups or starting up new ones. We finish at 4:00pm. There is a small admission charge of £1 to cover the cost of hiring the hall. Members are requested to have their £1 coins at the ready.

Days Out visits to places of historical, cultural, industrial, horticultural, architectural and sociological interest take place on most months throughout the year.

Below is our social events calendar for the next few months. We hope that this will enable you to plan ahead with your diary. When we start to take bookings for each event, a flyer/booking slip will be published on the website and sent by email as well. I hope that you will enjoy this programme of social events and use it as an opportunity to meet new people as well as to have some fun with existing friends. Just a reminder: U3A members are welcome to include friends and partners in social events with the exception of the December Monthly Meeting which is open to existing and new members only.

We operate a 'buddy' system for those who would like to attend social events but do not wish to go on their own. For further details please CONTACT: socialevents@haleu3a.co.uk .
