The group is not suitable for beginners.
The core group of 5 -6 has been meeting regularly for about 3 years now, roughly fortnightly on Tuesday afternoon, fitting around our other U3A activities.
We’re on to Book 2 of BBC Talk Italian (which has CDs & on-line resources to explore at home) and have also enjoyed reading together a series of short anecdotes - there’s a great sense of achievement when we’ve understood the punch line! We try to prepare a few sentences each time about what we’ve been up to or are planning, to share with the group - sorting out the grammar is teamwork and we’re looking forward to getting help with pronunciation this autumn from some Italian -speaking volunteers. We recently enjoyed a meal at a restaurant in Westcliff where the waiters were amused but patient with our attempts at their language.
