Welcome to Hackney U3A

Thank you for visiting our Hackney U3A website

Our membership records date back to April 2006 so Hackney U3A has been active for 15 years.

We currently have around 250 members and have continued to run quite of few of our activities over the past year, over Zoom and some outside, when allowed. Details of this can be found on the Groups and Events pages.

During the past year we have also produced three Lockdown Newsletters, entirely made up from contributions by our own members. These special newsletters were produced in September 2020, December 2020 and March 2021 and can also be accessed by clicking under Links on the right hand side of this page.

We hold a Monthly Social on the third Tuesday of each month from 10:30 to midday; before the pandemic, these were held in Homerton Library, with tea, coffee and light refreshments available. During Lockdowns, these meetings are offered over Zoom and we normally have a speaker to cover a topic which we believe will be of interest to our members. Our first "in person" monthly meeting has now been organised. Please see Events page for details.

In February 2021, we were interviewed for Hackney Social Radio and you can listen to the clip by clicking on the link on the right. Our feature on the programme starts about 20 minutes in.

Annual membership runs until 31 August 2022 and the subscription rate for this year is £12 for membership and £15 if you wish to receive the National Magazine “Third Age Matters” which is posted to you 5 times a year. (We pay £3.10 per annum for each member opting to receive this magazine).
The annual fee covers payment for the capitation fee to the National U3A and costs for Beacon and our Website.

For new members joining during the year, we will work out a pro-rata rate for the remainder of the year.

For details on how to pay for membership, please click on the link Hackney U3A fees 2021-2022, in the column to the right.

By joining Hackney U3A you also have access to resources and events organised by the London Region of U3As and other U3A materials. We have included some useful links to resources available from the National U3A and London Region of U3As on the U3A page.

We hope that this introduction has been of interest to you and if you would like to join Hackney U3A, please contact our Membership Secretary Barbara Patilla. We very much welcome new members.
