Tai chi

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tai chi classes were held over Zoom on a fortnightly basis.

Since September, the Tai chi class has returned to a new venue: St Michael's Hall near London Fields, Lansdowne Drive, E8 3ER.
Monday afternoons, 14:00-15:00.
Participants contribute towards the cost of hall hire.

The Tai chi sessions are led by Verne Crawford.

How to get there to St Michael's Hall:

  • Overground train to London Fields St. (from Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington, Hackney Downs)
  • Bus 394 stops close by in Lansdowne Drive
  • Buses 106 and 254 St Thomas Sq. stop and then cross London Fields
  • Bus 236 Richmond Rd stop

Requirements
Tai chi is performed standing, although some exercises can be adapted for people sitting on a chair.

If you have health problems and are worried as to whether you should do this kind of exercise, it would be best to consult your doctor.

There may be an opportunity to join this class if you have already done some tai chi; this will depend on the style that you have previously learned.

Before the pandemic, we were able to use the following venue free of charge; we hope to be able to return to the libraries at some point in the future and are in discussion with Hackney Council:
Venue: Stamford Hill Library
Tai chi: Mondays 14:45-15:45
These will be the times for every Monday (except Bank Holidays - library closed).
