Gunnislake & District

Welcome to Gunnislake & District U3A

Time to spare? Recently moved to the area? Want to meet new people?

Would you like to learn new skills, explore new fields (both metaphorical and literal) or input your own skills and share your interests with others.

You’ll be sure of a warm welcome at Gunnislake and District U3A!

The U3A is an organisation for semi-retired and retired people who would like to expand their interests and knowledge and make new friends. This branch of the U3A was founded in 1996 serving the surrounding villages in the Tamar Valley. We have had as many as 80 members who come not just from Gunnislake, but also Albaston, Calstock, Chilsworthy, Cox Park, Delaware, Dimson, Kelly Bray, St Ann's Chapel and beyond the Tamar. Membership is currently £12 per annum due on 1st April (BACS payment preferred) and if you already belong to another branch from further afield the cost is only £7.50 and you are most welcome.

Our meetings are held at 10.30 am on the fourth Monday of each month at Gunnislake Village Hall, Fore Street, (east side, between the traffic lights) in Gunnislake. We socialise, exchange ideas and information over coffee, and regularly have talks from visiting speakers. The meetings are what you make them. And new faces are always welcome.

We usually publish our own newsletter on a regular basis: however, during the pandemic only a few of our groups were able to continue on line and so there was far less to report. We are due to publish a new one soon. Please send your copy to: peterhammond789@gmail.com asap.

We receive the Third Age Trust magazine five times a year, which keeps us up to date with U3A matters throughout the UK. To explore more on the Third Age Trust, look under U3A above.

What our members say :

“Joining Gunnislake U3A when I moved to the area has been such a good way of meeting new people who all have the same interests as me ..... beautiful walks every week, French conversation, reading new books.” J, joined 2012

"I intially joined this group for the walking, and over the years have enjoyed book group, Spanish and Committee work, and now find myself creating this website ! It has also been a great opportunity to make friends." A, joined 2004

"I am one of the nine founder members from 1996 and seventeen years later U3A is still an important part of my life. The groups have broadened my interests considerably but the most important benefit is the friends I've made over the years. Come along to one of our monthly meetings. You won't regret it." P, joined 1996
