This course promotes an appreciation of Ancient Greek literature by reading the plays, poetry and history, in translation, and occasionally modern versions of the myths on which some of the stories were based. Over the last year we have read selected pieces from 'The Histories' by Herodotus. He is one of our main sources for the history of the 5th and 6th centuries BC. Far from being a dry commentary he relates events in a humorous and sceptical fashion.
