U3A Guernsey Music Group
A group for anybody who has a basic proficiency (or better) on any musical instrument and who wishes to make music with other people.
The convenor’s main leaning is towards classical, but there are no limitations as to genre. However, with the necessary concessions to age, it is not envisaged that anything very difficult will necessarily be attempted, or that anything will necessarily be produced that could be performed to an audience. The essential objective will be to achieve some mutual enjoyment in performance.
The only stipulation will be that, if you contribute an instrument, you must be in a position to provide some music for that instrument which will combine with at least one other instrument, and be able to play it. NO tuition will be provided.
The group may or may not take the form of a single ensemble, and may divide into sub-groups with members mixing and matching according to the needs of particular pieces.
At the present time we have one group of three people who are playing easy, popular, pieces for violin(s) and piano, from books such as ‘Duel’, ‘Celtic Fiddle Tunes’, ‘The Klezmer Fiddler’, and so on.
We have a second more advanced group of french horn, violin and piano, which is currently tackling Beethoven’s trio Op. 38, Haydn’s sonata Op. 4 for two horns, violin, cello and piano, (though we currently lack a second horn and a cello), and the Beethoven horn sonata. The Beethoven trio could also accommodate a clarinet instead of violin, or a cello instead of horn.
Times of meetings are by arrangement between group members, but are generally mornings.
