Euchre Wednesday Group
This group is currently meeting each week, but members need to be conscious of the fact that we meet in the lounge at a Residential Home, and should comply with the U3A Guernsey covid advice. In particular, do not attend if you have any symptoms which might be due to covid.
The group is for those who wish to enjoy playing Euchre in an informal and not too serious way. It is a group of mixed abilities, and we have some former beginners and some more experienced players. We generally arrange ourselves into tables as people arrive and don't operate a formal rotation system.
New members of the group need not to have played Euchre before, but experience has shown that it's essential for " third age " beginners to Euchre to be already proficient in at least one other trick taking game such as Whist, Knock out Whist, Solo or Bridge.
We meet in the lounge at La Nouvelle Maraitaine on Wednesday afternoons. The times for the group are 3pm – 5.15 pm. The U3A choir uses the lounge until 3 o’clock, but start their tea/coffee break at around 2.40, so members of the euchre group may arrive prior to 3 o’clock, though play will not start until the choir have finished singing and started their tea break.
When parking at La Nouvelle Maraitaine it is essential to park only within the marked spaces to avoid the risk of being fined by Maraitaine. There are dotted lines of white/grey tiles set into the dark tiles to mark the spaces. After 2.40 it will be found that choir members start to vacate parking spaces.
Members pay a small extra charge (currently £1 per week) to cover rent, refreshments, playing cards etc.
The group currently has a small number of vacancies. If you are interested, please email via the pigeon for further information.
