Metalwork
The Sculpture from Scrap-metal Sub-group
Just have a look at some of the wonderful creations the group have made.
The group provides an opportunity to discover the potential of making sculptures from the things made of metal that we throw away. Beginning with some initial practice at basic blacksmithing, welding and metalworking techniques, each person is encouraged to undertake their own project.
The focus is on transforming individual metal items into a sculpture for the house or garden. Sculptures may be made entirely from scrap - a three-dimensional collage of found components - or be made from a combination of scrap and new metal, re-working found pieces and combining them with newly forged or welded material, and even other interesting found or recycled material such as driftwood, glass bottles, etc.
Currently, the group meets weekly on Thursday mornings but other days and times may be considered if there is sufficient interest. Previous experience is not essential; beginners are very welcome, as guidance will be provided by more experienced metalworkers.
Other sub-groups, perhaps meeting on other days doing different metal projects, such as repairing machinery or making practical metal structures such as metal handrails may be formed if interest develops.
