Meetings weekly at Christchurch = Friday morning 10.30 to 12.30

The Bridge section continues to meet every Friday morning in Christchurch with the attendance generally between 8 and 12. This group is self sufficient and can meet and play without instruction, and the plan is for that to continue. We will however endeavour to provide regular tutorials on given topics.

Knowing that the best way to improve is to play more frequently we arranged a couple of friendly competitions with another group of players of a similar standard. In the first of these we fielded 3 pairs who finished second, fifth and seventh out of nine. Special congratulations to David and Michael who came second by the narrowest of margins and to all who took part. The second match resulted in us taking first, second, fifth and seventh places. The first and second were scratch partnerships made on the day that included one U3A member.

Additionally we arranged a buddy challenge with members of the Alpha Bridge club. In this members of U3A drew partners from the Alpha Club and played Chicago Bridge. Janet emerged as the inaugural winner with her partner Lenny. The members of the Alpha club were very helpful and our members gained greatly from the experience. It is intended to continue these both of these matches on a monthly basis in the New Year.

We are seeking acceptable premises and day to start a new beginner’s bridge course. If you wish to put your name on the waiting list please contact %Tony Bullen%.
