CORONAVIRUS - MEETING CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
The Genealogy and Family History Group
This group meets on the second Thursday of the month at 3pm till 5pm in the home of a member at Ormesby unless we have an outside trip.
As well as delving into our family trees we look at the social history that would have influenced the lives of our past relatives. Last year we visited Gressenhall museum and saw Victorian costumes in the Shire House in Norwich. For those coming from families in Great Yarmouth we walked through the Rows and heard about the Garnham estate in Gorleston.
We traced the origin of family names and how to date a photograph.
A member presented ‘one of their relatives’ with information gleaned from local newspapers.
Last year we visited the Bridewell Museum in Norwich and The Elizabethan House in Great Yarmouth as well as thinking about the jobs some of our ancestors did, ways of presenting our family history and what our relatives did in the World Wars .
We occasionally put £1 in the pot towards expenses and obviously pay for outside visits. Members receive a monthly e mail (or phone call) with information about the next meeting.
