Notice: The Art Appreciation scheduled to meet on Tuesday 14th January is cancelled.
Next Art Appreciation meeting will take place as scheduled on 11th February 2020
Art Appreciation welcomes anyone who is interested in the visual arts. We are a friendly, informal group who join together once a month to look at and discuss art. At the moment, we are sharing our ‘favourite artworks or artists’ and this has added a new dynamic to our group. Our interests are broad and varied; we have covered Rembrandt's Self Portraits through to Wright of Derby looking at how science and industrialisation has impacted on the world of art. A fascinating evening was spent looking at The Ashington Group from Northumberland that gave us an insight into the working class lives lived in and around the coal mines. The paintings of Cassius Coolidge entertained us and kept us smiling and we recently enjoyed a very informative talk on ‘The Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch’ known as ‘The Skating Minster’.
We regularly visit exhibitions and wherever possible either book guides at the exhibitions or we hold a pre-gallery talk. We meet in the lovely, St George’s Theatre Cafe, so we have plenty of room and can accommodate more members.
We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month 7.30 – 9.00pm at St George’s Theatre Café, Great Yarmouth - £3.00 includes refreshments. Parking is permitted alongside the café.
