Group Leader: Brian Edwards
Gravesend U3A have a group of pétanque players that varies from 8 to 30 depending on the night in question. We play between May and September, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-30pm until 9pm..
No previous knowledge or experience of pétanque is required as members of all levels attend. Equipment is available, generously loaned by Gravesend Rugby Club Pétanque Team, bot feel free to bring your own boules if you have any.
We play at Gravesend Rugby Club (Milton, DA12 2TL), who have an excellent facility which includes a bar for après games discussion and socialising afters!
In the last two years we have shared our evenings with members from Meopham U3A. This has proved quite beneficial to all parties concerned.
We charge members £3 per evening, this money goes to the rugby club, whose pétanque section set up the courts, provide equipment and coaching. (there are always a couple of their players on hand to help). The money goes towards improving the facilities and the rugby club is currently spending a massive amount on covering most of the pétanque courts which will enable us to play when the weather is poor.
For the more serious players, there is an opportunity to participate in the national weekend in 2019, please contact Brian Edwards in the first instance. In the main, however, we play for exercise and fun.
