Group Leader: Colin Nice
(Open to all members) We meet on the 1st Friday in the month, normally at 9.30am so we can complete the route by lunchtime. The hikes are intended for those who enjoy a longer walk with the walks being between 6 and 8 miles. It’s a thriving group and we often have 14 or 15 of us on the walks which are undertaken at a slightly more purposeful pace than the rambles - we need to walk a few more miles! However, we don't race; we want to enjoy our walk and the scenery. The terrain could potentially be hilly though not necessarily so and inevitably in winter the walk is likely to be muddy. Starting venues often focus chiefly on the locality and have begun from Cascades, Trosley, and Cobham but generally our starting points are not more than about 30 to 35 minutes drive from Gravesend.
Each year in the summer months we have some all-day “Summer Specials” in which we travel a little further and spend the day out, perhaps walking a bit further, but with stops for lunch, drinks, cafés etc. They are always a great fun day out and in previous years we’ve walked, for example, the Seven Sisters starting from Beachy Head, from Tankerton to Reculver Towers, and the Lea Valley from Waltham Cross, Herts.
We welcome new members so come along and join us!
