This friendly, lively discussion group meets on variable Mondays at 2.30p.m. at a private residence. The idea is to research and then present a "hero" or "heroine" you admire to the other members. So far the topics have ranged widely from literary figures such as Ted Hughes, John Buchan, Virginia Woolf, H.G.Wells, Rudyard Kipling, and James Herriot; scientists: Marie Curie and Erasmus Darwin, an explorer: Fridtjof Nansen, actors: Judi Dench,Roger Moore, and Lawrence Olivier, a sportswoman: Billie Jean King and earlier this year the travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor and William Morris.
We welcome the occasional visitor but, as we meet in private houses, have no room for any extra permanent members. Get in touch with Sue and Richard Crabtree, the group leaders, preferably by e-mail at email@example.com
