The birdwatching group was formed at the beginning of 2013 with a programme of events including local field trips within Cumbria and Lancashire. Morecambe Bay is a fantastic location for vast numbers of winter visitors and this group provides an opportunity to learn more about the large variety of birds in the locality. Examples of visits are Martin Mere Wildfowl Trust reserve to see the Whooper Swans, the Hay Bridge Nature reserve to see the early summer migrants, and St Bees Head for the nesting sea birds which included good views of black guillemots. The group also enjoyed a long weekend in North Wales in the summer of 2019. The group is a blend of experienced and novice ornithologists and all Grange U3A members are welcome.
