Hello, welcome to the U3A yoga group page. We are a group of friendly ladies and gents who love to come together once a week at the Nimrod Community Centre, Rowner. We work with our lovely Leanne who is a qualified Yoga instructor. We are all at different levels of ability and beginners are very welcome ( we all have had to start somewhere!). Leanne helps us keep nimble and fit, and also supplies us with an online video so we can continue our practice in the comfort of our home. Please feel free to call me or Pat to have a chat about our group, we would love to hear from you.
YOGA IN LOCKDOWN - A REPORT FROM JAN ST LEDGER
Leanne our lovely yoga teacher has put her class on Zoom and for those who can access it they have a regular weekly session. I know one of our ladies has made a perfect Zen area to practice in. For those of us without much space we just put our mats down and we do the best we can. For me this means head in the dining room and feet in the kitchen. Leanne gives us much encouragment in the form of emails, keeping us updated with ideas and information on what certain aspects of yoga mean. I have to say that since the lock down my partner and I have done more yoga.
Leanne has taught us a 'Flow' which is easy to remember and we can take any part of it to work on. So we mix and match but we always start with a bow to the practice, to ourselves for making the effort to get on the mat and to each other for their energy and double breathing which prepares us for the postures. Then it's into the Flying Mountain, Sun Salutation, The Moon Flow, The warrior, The Pigeon, and so much more. We finish again with double breathing and relaxation. We do something called a 61 point rotation which is very relaxing, helps us to focus on how our body feels and a lovely way to end.
I don't have Zoom so my partner and I do our own thing but keep in mind all we have been taught. I do get muddled with the 61 point rotation, forgetting bits of the rote and end up laughing, which can't be bad.
Leanne has said she really misses her U3A yoga group and although I can only speak for us, we miss it too. When we come out of the lock down we very much look forward to coming together with the other Yogis to resume our practice. Til then we hope all of you out there keep safe and well. Keep laughing and keep learning. We will have so much to talk about when we meet up😊🙏
