Steam Railways
The Steam Railway Group would be of interest to anyone who has either a serious passion for steam trains or would just like the opportunity of reliving glorious past memories of steam travel in the UK. Since the group was set up in 2014 we have visited most of the Heritage Steam Railways within 2 hours of Gloucester. In addition we have gone to the National Railway Museum at York, The Didcot GWR Society and the marvellous Pendon Model Railway Museum near Abingdon.
In the cinema at the Guild Hall we have had many excellent guest speakers come and talk to us on specific matters of Railway related topics. We aim to have at least 3 such events each year.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday April 30th when Ian Pope will be talking to us about the history of the Dean Valley Railway and the work they have done into making it a popular visitor attraction in the Forest of Dean.
On June 20th we will travel by coach to visit the picturesque Brecon Mountain Railway. Anyone interested in going please let me know so I can calculate the cost of the coach travel. Please visit their website for further information.
