Play Reading 1
The Play's the thing
The revived Play Reading Group kicked off in February with a short moral tale set in a parish council meeting called 'Here Endeth the First Lesson' by Stewart Auty with a nice sting in the tale to put the boorish main character in his place. Later we did Terence Rattigan's classic 'Separate Tables', spread over two sessions, and finished for a summer break with Charles Cameron's comedy 'One of the Family' with plenty of fun to be had with accents and the need for fine timing.
Monthly meetings are held at the home of organisers Ian and Carmen Smith. There was a healthy response to the announcement of this group at the beginning of the year with 12 members signing up before closing at what the organisers felt was an optimum number, given the average cast and the balance of male to female characters. There is already a waiting list, so a second group has been started.
