Folk Dancing

A fun way to keep fit and meet new friends.

No previous experience is necessary.

We meet at St Oswald's Church Hall, Coney Hill Road, Gloucester.GL4 4LX. There is car parking by the hall. You can reach the hall by public transport on the buses 2 and 2A from Gloucester, leaving the Clarence Street stop and getting off at the turn to Hawthorn Avenue and near to the church.

We meet every two weeks, on a Monday 10.00 a.m. until 11.30 a.m. Helen teaches us the Dances and calls out the moves. Our group dances traditional Playford Type dances, dating back to the 18th century, and a range of dances collected by the English Folk Song and Dance Society, dances by Pat Shaw, and later American Square and contra-Dances. Come and try our Local dances too. Gloucestershire has a great tradition of Barn dances. We keep the enjoyment of Folk Dancing alive !

Many of our Dancers have happy memories of Country Dance in their lives- whether as a school child, or Barn Dancing in later life. Others have loved Scottish Dance . Together we pursue our goals:- remembering the moves, enjoying the music, and keeping agile and fit. I think that we have a laugh and a natter too?

Please use this Calendar to find out when we meet,as some months have 5 Mondays.
