The humour group started in October 2013. It meets on the 2nd Monday in the month at 2.00 pm, usually at my house.
We began by trying to define humour, and now at the start of our 4th year we are still exploring what makes us laugh. After discussion we decided on the following topics for this year but it's always open to change if a better idea comes up and sometimes if a famous comic dies eg Victoria Wood last summer. September 19th Caroline Ahearne a retrospective; October 10th Humour in History, from 1066 and All That to Black Adder 2. Session led by Malcolm Burn:November 14th Cartoons, both Political and other with special reference to Private Eye; led by Brian. 12th December alternative versions of Pantomime. January 9th: Laughter in Wartime Punch Cartoons, Dad's Army and Hallo, Hallo. February 13th: A captive Audience, Porridge with Ronnie Barker. March 9th: Jimmy Perry and David Croft. April 13th : The things kids say. May 11th Some comic traditions, catchphrases, partnerships, cross dressing. June 15th Slapstick and Does Humour Date, eg Laurel and Hardy Arthur Askey Max Wall, July 13th; End of term party.
The group is quite small so that we can all participate and bring along material to share. Sometimes the best bit is at the end when we all share jokes.
