Updated March 2019
This thriving group has been running for nearly a year and now has over 30 members partaking in a varied program of exciting and enjoyable activities.
You can see videos of their abseiling adventure here: Abseiling videos
So far activities have included Abseiling, Aerial-Trekking, Climbing, and Go-karting for the more adventurous, as well less strenuous activities such as Archery, Canoeing and Clay-Pigeon shooting. Forthcoming adventures include Quad-Biking and Zip Wire.
Activities tend to be arranged on a monthly basis, often during the last week – depending on when a booking can be made. Usually a Doodle Poll is set up for each proposed activity highlighting a number of potential days when it can take place, allowing putative participants to indicate their preference for the timing of the event, with the organiser finalising the date according to the poll's results.
Although Andrew Blackford has now taken over the coordinator role, with Jackie Willan acting as deputy coordinator, the responsibility for organising events will be shared equitably among group members with each being expected to take a turn. Technical help in setting up Doodle Polls will be provided, as needed. The coordinator will handle any group-wide email distribution.
Planning and booking should be done well ahead of proposed dates. If the activity requires a deposit then the organiser pays this up-front with each member then paying the cost of the activity arranged directly to the organiser. The only exception to this arrangement is where the activity provider requires full payment at booking time. In this case the U3A treasurer would need to be involved to pay this from U3A funds.
An important rule is that if you commit to an activity then you must pay.
