Glasgow West End

Welcome to Glasgow West End U3A

Dear All

We now have around 300 members, and at present we have a number of groups online, most activities taking place on Zoom or WhatsApp. These include: Book Groups, Yoga, Art Appreciation, History, German, French, Spanish, Quilting, Classical Music, Coffee and Chat, Photography and Sign Language. We also have our own Facebook page and enjoy the opportunity to meet other members on the monthly Saturday afternoon Zoomed Chat and Coffee. We produce a monthly Newsletter which is sent to all members.

Many members participated in the David Hume Institute Focus Groups on what brings joy in lockdown, leading on to Equality and Fairness. A Current Affairs group has emerged from this.

After a fascinating talk by Shelter, many of us did a sponsored walk for the local branch of the charity (in pairs and socially distanced). We then organised another successful walk for the Beatson using that model. We will be organising another walk in June/July for those interested.

The Monthly Meetings take place on the third Thursday of the month, at 10 for 10.30 am. Talks, with an opportunity to ask questions, usually last about an hour in total. The Zoom or telephone link is sent to all members in advance.

We have decided to extend the GWE U3A membership year until the end of March 2022, and also to charge no joining fee during that time. Renewal fees will not be due until April 1st 2022. It is also possible for people thinking of joining to join groups in order to give the GWE U3A a trial before committing. Contact groups via the website links. For further enquiries, and to join, please contact the membership secretary using the link in this website. Please see here for details about Joining Glasgow West End U3A.

I hope you find the Website informative and we welcome comments from new and old members!

Take care and thank you for your continued support.

Liz Ervine
