Gateshead U3A is open to anyone who is not in full-time employment and who wishes to take part in its educational and social activities.
We have monthly meetings on the third Monday of the month, starting at 1.30 pm. meeting in St.Peter's Church Hall, Weathercock Lane (off Kells Lane), Low Fell, Gateshead. For those using sat-navs, the postcode is NE9 5JD. If you are coming by bus then, depending where you live, you can catch the No.1, No.21, or the new Q service which has replaced the 51/52. If you are coming by car, there is a free car park at the rear of the church. These meetings have a speaker, followed by tea/coffee and biscuits. There are many sub groups covering a multitude of interests, all listed under GROUPS on this website.
There is an annual membership fee (£15 during the 2019/20 year) and a small charge (currently £1) at each meeting to cover the cost of room hire plus tea/coffee and biscuits. At most of the meetings we have a speaker but, at other times, we have special events organised by the members (press the EVENTS button for details). If you are a full member of another U3A then you can also join Gateshead U3A as an associate member for an annual fee of £10. You can then join Gateshead U3A groups but have no voting rights at the AGM.
In addition to the main meeting, we hold a coffee morning on the first Wednesday of each month at St.Helen's Church hall,Belle Vue Bank, in Low Fell, Gateshead, starting at 10am. A popular group meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Beaconsfield Pub, Beaconsfield Road, Low Fell, Gateshead NE9 5EU at 1100 hours for coffee and a chat (with some staying for lunch). The atmosphere is very relaxed and the food varied and good value for money.
