WELCOME TO GATESHEAD U3A
Learn, laugh, live
DUE TO CORONAVIRUS CRISIS ALL MEETINGS ARE CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Joining the U3A, you enter a stimulating organisation, fostering friendships and encouraging life long learning. Keeping active both mentally and physically, we know is a key to staying happy and healthy. The U3A offers excellent talks and discussions and a chance to participate in small groups that will widen your knowledge or perhaps cater for special interests you have already. All local U3As are self help groups in which members share with each other their own knowledge and experience.
In the Northumbria Region U3A alone there are 52 individual U3A’s with possibly more to follow and beyond that a Third Age Trust National and International movement flourishes. The organisation holds many national and regional events as well as local ones.
There is no age limit, membership is open to anyone no longer in full time employment. Part-timers – come on in.
Gateshead U3A has approximately 80 members.
Our main activities centre on the Interest Groups. Some information about those which are currently running can be found on the Groups page. Members with a keen interest in their chosen subject lead/organise their Group. Groups cover indoor and outdoor interests, cultural and otherwise, while social events also feature on the calendar.
There are 16 groups at the present time and if a topic you would like to see is not covered, then our Committee can help you start a new group.
The Interest Groups are self financing. Some groups meet in member's homes, in which case a small fee is charged for refreshments. Other Groups who use an external venue will charge a nominal amount for room hire.
Members meet on the third Monday of each month from 1.30 – 3.30 pm in St Peter’s Church Hall, Weathercock Lane (off Kells Lane), Low Fell, NE9 5JD. Sometimes there are as many as 60 members who come along to this meeting. Talks are presented on a wide range of topics, given by speakers from the North East. Refreshments provided.
On the first Wednesday of each month, we hold a coffee morning in St Helen’s Church Hall, Belle Vue Bank, Low Fell NE9 6BR from 10.00 - 11.30 am which is well attended.
At each meeting, besides the opportunity to meet existing friends and make new ones, you will be kept abreast of what's going on. All for the amazing cost of £1.00 each per meeting to cover room hire, speaker and refreshments.
Why not come along as a visitor to the coffee morning or monthly main meeting if you are interested in joining Gateshead U3A - YOU will be very welcome.
