Visit to National Coal Board Mining Museum
If you've never been to the National Coal Mining Museum or went a long time ago, as it has expanded, it's worth a visit and is especially geared up for children in the holidays (grandparents - there's even a 'beach' and playground for the littl'uns). The SciTech group found everyone very friendly and helpful, plenty of space (there's a 'Paddy Train' to go to and from the far end of the site), volunteers and guides to tell you about the wide-ranging exhibits - huge machinery, the pit baths, pit engines, the smithy, mining history, science and technology building as well as the horses and walks round the filtration ponds! Not forgetting the underground tour (optional) led by ex-miners - prepare to be watchless, phoneless & car key-less as nothing electrical (apart from the special batteries & lights) is allowed underground!

Visit to Quirky Brewery, Garforth
Not a lot of people know this, but Garforth boasts its very own microbrewery. Well, maybe more like a nanobrewery according to its owner, as it is very small, and the bar area and brewery itself would fit on the ground floor of most houses! We spent an enlightening afternoon hearing about the evolution of Quirky's, the range of its beers (from porters to pale ales), and seeing the brewing area, finding out how the beer is actually made including the importance of cleanliness, one stage in the process even needing absence of adverse odours (no aftershave or even scented deodorants)!! There were even beers to sample, for those who wished (and were not driving), a chance to purchase some to take away, and to imbibe a few more for those within staggering distance of home! Thank you to Quirky's owner Simon and head brewer, Aaron!

Sound and Leisure Juke Box Manufacturers, Crossgates Leeds
We had a very entertaining talk from the owner followed by an interesting tour around the workshops to see how the jukeboxes are made. There was an extensive collection of jukeboxes past and present, including custom made ones | | | | 26thNov2019 |
Visit to Tesla Showroom, Leeds
Although the showroom was small as there are not many cars in the Tesla range, the showroom manager was very informative and answered our questions, before giving us a demonstration of their 'dancing' car - the top of the range Model X with its gull-wing doors | Pictured is Top of the Range Model X Gullwing | 19thSep2019 |

Visit to Leeds RERF Leeds Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility
A major design feature of Leeds RERF is the 'green wall' which uses both native (local) and non- native varieties of plants to create a natural habitat and attract wild life. Only Leeds' black bin waste goes to the RERF, but it does do some secondary recycling of any metals which have ended up in the black bins | | | 24th Jan2019 |
Visit to Queens Mill, Formerly Allisons Mill Castleford
{Tuesday 4th December 2018
The mill used to belong to Allinsons and it was where they milled all their flour. When they left, the building fell into disrepair but has since been taken over by the heritage group who have done a great job restoring it. It is only a short tour, about an hour led by a volunteer, but very interesting to see how all the mill stones and the water wheel etc work.#
