Crafty Folk
This group meets monthly 2nd Wednesday morning from 10.00 to 12 noon in the Drill Hall, Nelson Street, Dalton-in-Furness.
Members bring whatever craft project they are doing at home, with the aim of offering help to each other in trying their hand at different crafts. Initial suggestions are tapestry, knitting, appliqué, cross-stitch, card-making, paper sculpture, scrap-booking, ribbon embroidery, rag-rugging, painting on silk, etc. We would welcome help from any U3A member willing to give us some ideas and guidance. Please contact Brenda for more information.

The Group recently had a session on painting on china, led by Maureen Houliston. Using special templates, featuring various animals and birds, these were carefully traced on to new china mugs. The images were filled in with special ceramic paints, with various degrees of artistic ability! Maureen then took them all home to be fired in her kiln. The mugs are now dishwasher safe.
Our October effort was Encaustic Art, led by Sue Bachelor. This involves using tablets of wax melted on to a travel iron and smeared on to special paper to give a background. The iron can then be used along the edges and the tip to create special effects. Different colours of wax can be used as they dry quickly. The finished picture is then polished to bring up a sheen on the wax. Two pictures were mounted to make greetings cards.
