Architecture
The Architecture Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10.00- 12.00 in the ante room of the Coronation Hall.
This year we are looking at Architectural Styles (eg Romanesque, Gothic, Tudor/Elizabethan, Victorian, etc.) and examples of these in the Furness area and beyond. We research subjects and give small presentations; we also visit local (and less local) examples of our topics. We have room for one or two new members.
If you are interested please contact Grete Hughes for more information.

WAKEFIELD TRIP 2018
On 11th/12th July the Architecture Group ran a two-day trip to Wakefield, organised by Bryan Edmondson. To make the trip viable, it was opened up to other U3A members and 33 of us had a most enjoyable trip. The timing of the England football team to reach the semi-final on the night of our visit to the Premier Inn and adjacent pub made it a night to remember. As well as the exit of Federer from Wimbledon! Anyway, back to the architecture trip...
The Wednesday afternoon was spent looking round the Hepworth Museum; remarkable as much for the design of the building as for the contents. The light coming into the building made it unlike most other museums and art galleries and many photos were taken of the Hepworth sculptures and many others.
There was an exhibition of Lee Miller photographs which we weren't unfortunately allowed to photograph but the Viviane Sassen images made up for it. Her 'Hot Mirror' exhibition was vibrant and colourful.
Thursday morning was spent at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the temperature was perfect for the miles it was possible to walk round it. Of the 80+ sculptures, I think most of us saw about half, and not even the same half! It is definitely somewhere to return to. (Click on any picture to enlarge)
