Friday Walkers group walks are CURRENTLY SUSPENDED, as required by Coronavirus restrictions
(See the link on the News page regarding government advice)
Instead, group members are welcome to join our online Zoom social meetings most Friday mornings
Before Coronavirus hit, this group was FULL, but we will review this when things get back to normal.
We have a waiting list and if you wish to be added, contact Peter Quiggin for more information.
(Pre-Coronavirus) The Friday Walkers group normally has a walk every Friday, weather permitting of course. There are typically 20 to 30 people on the walks, which are led by various members of the group and are typically 6 to 10 miles. Occasionally they are Fell walks – e.g. Lingmoor, Wansfell – but generally they involve less climbing than that.
The group is coordinated by Pete & Christine Quiggin – (contact Peter Quiggin for more information). We put the various walk-leading offers that we get into a programme and email everyone in the group each week, giving some details of that week’s walk, where to meet etc. Walks are weather-dependent, so make sure you check your mailbox for cancellation notices.
The normal Friday morning meeting-up point is on Daltongate in Ulverston, near the A590/Barrow end of that road where there’s room to leave cars. We meet at about 9:20am, in time to arrange car-sharing and be ready to leave at 9:30 to drive to where the walk starts. Car sharing helps reduce the number of cars parked where the walk starts and it also reduces fuel use.
If we’re not meeting at Daltongate – e.g. we sometimes use the train for a walk from Arnside or Silverdale – then the programme gives details of where to meet.
