AS A RESULT OF THE CURRENT HEALTH CRISIS ALL THEATRES HAVE CLOSED
We regret to say that The production of West Side Story on May 21 has been postponed and The Theatre by the Lake has cancelled the whole of the summer season
Theatre trips are organised by Brenda Edmondson, Moira Fair and Grete Hughes. The visits start in the autumn, and run through to early summer; usually 4 or 5 trips during this period. We go to Matinées at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton; theatres in Manchester and Liverpool and to Theatre by the Lake at Keswick. The price includes the coach trip, theatre ticket and a tip for the driver.
The coach leaves Abbey Road, Barrow, outside the Shell Garage, (opposite the Strawberry) at 8.30 am for all trips, regardless of destination, and picks up at Tudor Square, Dalton; the Drill Hall at Ulverston; the bus shelter in Greenodd village and Newby Bridge bus shelter. Drop-off points are the same on return. There is ample time for shopping and/or lunch before the show starts. There are often some spare places on the coach for members who wish to have a shopping/sight-seeing day without going to the theatre.
The Theatre Visits contact number on the day of the trip is 07379 817326
As you will appreciate when arranging theatre trips we have to commit to paying for the coach and all theatre tickets well in advance. As a consequence, and as we are sure you will understand, all cheques are non-refundable. Nevertheless, as we appreciate, circumstances change. So if you are unable to go, in the first instance please contact Brenda Edmondson, who will be able to inform you if there is anyone on the waiting list to whom you can sell your ticket. If there is no waiting list, please try to sell the ticket to any other U3A member. And so we know who to expect on the day, can we please ask that you keep the theatre group informed of any change.

U3A THEATRE VISITS 2020

|Thu Nov 26th||Stop Press!|
The Lowry, Salford, to see Matthew Bourne’s new production of ‘The Nutcracker!’ before it transfers to Sadler’s Wells.
The sweetest of all Matthew Bourne’s Christmas treats. It’s a Nutcracker like no other, adored by critics and audiences alike. With family-sized helpings of Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy, Nutcracker follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a darkly comic Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering ice-skating winter wonderland to the sumptuous candy kingdom of Sweetieland, influenced by the lavish Hollywood musicals of the 1930s.
Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s delectable sets and costumes combine with Bourne’s dazzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional Christmas favourite. Expect a sprinkling of delicious new surprises in the reinvented production for 2020.
We have now sold all the tickets for Nutcracker and have started a waiting list. If anyone wishes to join that list please contact Moira. Tickets, including coach trip, are £49 each.
