Four Border Abbeys

Walking Group

Group Facilitator: Andrew Wilson

Meets: Every Tuesday and Friday usually at 10.00 am but sometimes at 10:30 am

Venue: Various around the area

Accessibility: Limited accessibility - please check with Group Leader as some venues may have steps and/or uneven paths.

The group is very informal in that there are no leaders, individual members offer and organise a route and all are welcome to participate.

Members are invited to offer walks each quarter and this produces a list of walks for the following term. The quarterly list of walks are issued approx. one month ahead of the start dates.

There are two types of walks offered on the programme:

1. Easier: The shorter walks over terrain with limited ascent. Walks in this category range from 3-6 miles.

2. Harder: Hill walking or walks longer than 6 miles. These would normally include some more strenuous walking with steep ground or longer distances over mixed terrain.

Walkers are responsible for making sure that the walk is within their own capabilities and are responsible for their own safety whilst on a walk. Suitable hill walking gear must be worn.

You may feel that you are not fit enough but we do two different types of walk; the easier walks are of a shorter distance but that does not mean that there are no hill climbs on them. In general the leaders of these walks will allow plenty of time to complete the walk and will not hurry people up the hills. The harder walks, as the names suggests, are more difficult or challenging but should be within the capability of fit hill walkers.
The descriptions that are put out prior to a walk will give a very good indication of the degree of difficulty and, one of the advantages of ‘phoning in the evening before is that it allows individuals to ask the walk leader about the days route, so come on out and join us and have fun.

If you are interested in joining this group, please email the Facilitator by using the Blue Bird logo on this page.
