There were 6 ladies at the meeting this month; with apologies from 2 who are currently recuperating after being in hospital~ we all wish them both speedy recoveries, and hope to see them again in the spring.

A letter was sent from the Neo natal unit at King’s Mill, thanking us for the donation of knitted baby clothes. We have an ongoing batch of items to be dropped off there again very soon.

After contacting the Sir John Eastwood Hospice team, and offering the knee blankets, we were given a variety of ideas for other items that they would appreciate being made for their forthcoming Fairs.

These include ~ stuffed toys, coat hangers, tea cosies, book marks, pin cushions, oven gloves, needle cases, peg bags and hand made cards, so there is plenty of scope for all the group to select projects to work on for the next few months.

An experimental session of knitting pieces to cover coat hangers began ~ results next time!

We admired and examined a “twiddle muff” that had been made by one of the group, and discussed how more could be made, these items are used by dementia suffers to calm down anxiety and restlessness, by giving something to occupy their hands.

Of course, the Real object of the meeting was to yet again solve Major World Problems~ the topic of the day being the exorbitant cost of spectacles and lenses, and the fact that spectacle wearers are not able to claim any of the benefits/discounts/allowances that others with similar disabilities are granted.
Unfortunately, a viable solution was not found!

We would like to extend the invitation to all the ladies who signed up during the monthly U3A meetings who have not so far attended the Monthly group meetings to give us a go! As you can see, there is Plenty to keep you all occupied, so the more the merrier!
