How to Join a Zoom Meeting for the first time
You received an email with a link to join a Zoom meeting and this is your first time, what to do?
When you click on the Zoom link you will be taken to the Zoom welcome page, if this is your first time you will be prompted to download the Zoom app, this is easy to do, just follow the on-screen prompts, you will only need to do this once.
When you join a meeting you will be asked if you want to join with video and audio click yes to both questions and don't forget to unmute your microphone if you usually have it muted.
The Zoom app is not the full Zoom programme, it is a small programme that allows you to attend Zoom meetings.
You can download the Zoom app before the day of the meeting if you want to be prepared, or if you want to read more in depth instructions and other ways to join a Zoom meeting click on this link: How to join a Zoom meeting and you will be guided through the process.
DID YOU KNOW Windows 10 has its own emojis?
Hold down the Windows key (the one with the windows symbol) and press the full stop key (.) to see the emojis and other useful symbols.
To download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC click on this link: Download Adobe Reader
For Windows users: the download page will recognise your operating system and take you to the appropriate download page. There is an 'Optional Offer' to download Google Chrome and make it your default browser, untick the boxes if you don't want this.
For MAC, iPad users and Android operating system users, clicking on the above link will take you to the appropriate APP STORE.
If you are unsure which operating system and version you are using touch the Settings button on your ipad or tablet screen and look for one of these options, (usually in the GENERAL section of Settings):
touching one of these options or a combination of them will tell you which operating system you are using and the version number, it will also tell you if there is an update for your Operating System.
Dreaded Black Screen
If you are faced with a Black or Blank screen on your laptop on startup that goes on for several minutes, it may be that your computer is updating or completing an update, if it goes on for longer than you feel is reasonable you can safely switch of the laptop by holding the power button down for 6 or 7 seconds, you may feel it click off, wait about 30 seconds then switch on again.
If this fails to solve the problem try the following, unplug your laptop from the mains if it is plugged in, turn the laptop upside down and remove the battery, turn the laptop right side up and with the battery and mains removed, press the power button 5 or 6 times over a 30 second period, this removes any residual current, replace the battery and/or mains and restart the laptop, this has worked for me with several laptops.
