Art Appreciation: A critical examination of art works from c.1300 to the present day. The emphasis is on group participation. Developing skills in examining artworks; artistic techniques; cultural context; patronage; artistic autonomy; the role of artists in society and the reception of artworks over time.
Meetings are in the morning of the 4th Thursday of the month. Meetings are held in the group leader's house. Under the current restrictions members are asked to take a lateral flow test before the meeting.
In the past we have examined artworks in a fairly chronological order from the early Renaissance to the present day. We have also looked at non-western art – the art of China and the art of the Indian sub-continent.
Currently we are re-engaged with western art from the Renaissance onwards but now going at a much slower pace and in more detail.
