Art Appreciation 1
Art Appreciation: A critical examination of art works from c.1300 to the present day. The emphasis is on group participation. Developing skills in examining artworks; artistic techniques; cultural context; patronage; artistic autonomy; the role of artists in society and the reception of artworks over time.
Meetings are in the morning of the 4th Thursday of the month, held in the group leader's house.
Having spent several months looking at the art of Spain from the Renaissance to the present day we have now decided to take a step away from European art and look at the art of other cultures. We have started with the Art of China which is far outside our experience of the history of western art and is proving quite a challenge. Our opening investigation is on the art of ancient China up to the first imperial dynasty of the Qin.
