Bridge Club
The inaugural meeting of the bridge club took place on the 12th June 2012, with eight people getting together to decide on how we would run the group.
It was decided that, although you need to have some sort of competitive edge in any game, we would try to combine learning with pleasure, as is the ethos of the U3A. The group started with three complete beginners, who were introduced to the game and have stayed with us and progressed to be competent players.
By May 2019, we were meeting twice a week and have 12-20 regular attendees (depending on whether it is a Tuesday or a Thursday). We have regularly introduced new players (some from starting as complete novices) and all are now competing at the level of the existing players.
We still run the group on a very friendly basis, no one is over competitive and players are encouraged to ask questions rather than guess.
New beginners or players wanting a game are always welcome and encouraged.
Hope to see you at the next meeting.
July 20. The BRIDGE group have been playing via an online
Bridge game facility which enables someone to set up a game and invite other
participants. Chris Place runs the online group and has been helping members to interact
for some good games.
September 21. As well as playing online, the Bridge Group has now started to meet in person at the Golf Club, from 2-4 pm.
