Exmouth & District

Hello and Welcome to the Exmouth & District branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A.) We became full members on April 1st 2012 and now feel a well-established active and friendly group. The U3A is an organisation for people, usually over 50, and not in full time work who wish to continue to share in life-long learning together, to explore and expand your interests whatever your level of expertise. The word university is used in its original sense 'a group of people with a desire to learn'. Whether you wish to lead a group or simply to learn something completely new all are welcome.
We have a regular newsletter which can be found following the button at the top, our own Facebook Group, Connect and Learn Group for on-line learning and when necessary we issue regular bulletins.

Covid 19

During the Covid 19 restrictions your committee is working hard to keep our membership updated whilst aiming to keep a sense of proportion and remaining calm. As we are all volunteers we are sure that we can rely on our members to support us and each other in these unusual times and would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation.

Members are welcome from Exmouth and its neighbourhood. So far members have joined from Budleigh Salterton, Topsham and Aylesbeare as well as Exmouth, but we look forward to welcoming people from other towns and villages nearby. Annual membership at present is £12 and covers groups, U3A resources and Magazine. If you wish to join please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact button at the top of the page. There is a link to the membership application form on the contacts page.

Before the Covid 19 restrictions we held monthly meeting in Exmouth Pavilion. They were usually held on the Second Thursday of the month at 10am with a chance to socialise before the meeting started at 10:30. We had an interesting range of speakers including some of our own members and had speakers booked through to 2021.

During the current restrictions we are holding weekly ‘Connect on Thursday’ sessions at 10:15 for 10:30 (unless otherwise stated) via Zoom. At these sessions members have the chance to chat before the meeting starts. We then have a look at the links and resources on the ‘Connect and Learn’ website (Connect and Learn). This is usually followed by a short presentation by one of the committee or one of our own members. We are delighted to say that on the second Thursday in the month wherever possible we are planning to continue with our monthly meetings with an external speaker. The Zoom link to these meetings is e-mailed to members. Please see the calendar for these meetings.

Interest groups cover many fields from academic through exercise to social. There is more information about them on the Groups page. Before the restrictions they usually met in members' homes.

We have an active Social Committee who before the Covid 19 situation arranged various trips and events throughout the year.

Contacts can be found using the link at the top of the page.
